A young man sits in a chair, hunched over with sweat beads dripping down his face. Eyes closed, deep in concentration. In this chair sits Toronto Maple Leafs NHL Defensemen, Bryan McCabe. Ontario born boy playing in his hometown. for the fabled Maple Leafs has spent most of his professional career battling his demons.
Bryan lifts his head after a considerable time spent hunkered over. "My name is Bryan McCabe and I am an NHL Defenseman?", he says almost as if it was a question.
As part of his battle with defense, not many can stake claim to being fired from a professional team in Europe, while maintaining roster status on a professional NHL team. Like many with demons they may fall of the ladder from time to time. Sadly Bryan has had the unfortunate luck to fall off the ladder several times over the course of his career. Many fans of the Toronto Maple Leafs witness these setbacks on a nightly basis.
Bryan has had the unfortunate distinction to be a player who has scored in OT and his team still lost, Tripping over the blueline seems to be a common theme, and boos rain down nightly on this chap.
One day hopefully this chap will be able to say with conviction. "I am an NHL Defenseman".
