Penny For Thoughts

It’s a bitter pill to swallow when your players do not put up the numbers you expect them to. Take one of the newest additions to the Toronto Maple Leafs – Jason Blake.

From the initial signing, many in Leafs nation believed it was a half-baked idea. Blake was coming off an amazing season with the Islanders of New York. Sure, 49 goals and 69 points made him a man for all seasons, but really, what were the Leafs trying to accomplish?

Were the Leafs trying to put together a winning combination?

It was a no guts, no glory situation. General managers John Ferguson Jr. had to make a blockbuster deal during the summer. He did just that, he offered Blake all the tea in China, and of course, Blake accepted.

Opportunity doesn’t knock twice, no, opportunity only knocks once. Blake was offered the opportunity of a life time – play in the Mecca of hockey. The opportunity has truly made Blake run with the wolves.

Not producing in a market in Toronto is a lot like breaking your mothers back after stepping on a crack. Bottom line is, Blake needs to start producing or he can expect major instances sent in his general direction.
