It is no secret that the main thing the NHL needs is more scoring. There have been numerous suggestions on how to accomplish this. Some of the ideas have already been implemented...stricter penalty calls, no line changes allowed on an icing call, delay of game penalty for flipping the puck over the glass, amongst other things. And all these changes have been great for the lead. What's better to watch then having a game with a good flow halted with immense amounts of hooking, and holding calls?
One thing the NHL hasn't tried yet, which should be inevitable, are bigger nets. There are no drawbacks from what I can tell. It would definitely make for more goals, thus making the game much more exciting to watch. Another great thing about the bigger nets would be the absence of the leagues most over hyped, and over rated goalie. Roberto Luongo. Roberto has come out openly, and said that he would retire if the NHL were to go to bigger nets. Good riddance. Luongo is a guy who couldn't even beat a current AHL goalies' [Brian Boucher, currently of the Philadelphia Phantoms] shutout streak. How he's still in this league is beyond me. He cost his team dearly in last years playoffs. Luongo allowed a VERY weak goal in overtime as his team was eliminated by the Anaheim Ducks. Well enough about this waste of RBK Edge fabric.
If the NHL wants a better product on the ice, bring on the bigger nets!
